1994 Connie003

We aren’t sure when the book group first met but, after 1965, one major leader for many years was Connie Pratt, working with various co-chairs.  She was the Dean of Admissions at Radcliffe College when she married Peter Pratt in 1958.  Peter left  Harvard to join the Stanford Med School administration in 1965 and they moved to our campus.  Connie was a life-long educator and especially enjoyed poetry.   She was on the faculty of Castilleja School and had her own business of advising on college applications.   Connie passed away in 2011, leaving a host of friends.

Nancy Rubenstein served with fellow Wellesley alum, Connie, and became lead chair when Connie retired after a serious auto accident. Nancy served ten years and retired.   The club is now fortunate to have Toby Montgomery and Janet Germane as volunteers to organize this section.   Readers are always welcome to join Book Group.    Click here to see the great choices for this year and the meeting dates.

In addition to Book Group we also have “Author’s Coffee” where top-notch writers join us to discuss their works.    After a hiatus of a couple years,  Andrea van Niekerk has stepped up as chair.     On Thursday, October 23, Joan Hancock will host author James T. Campbell, a Stanford professor, to discuss his new book.   Please read the Preview for more more details.
